Tips For Dressing Appropriately At The Office

2 min

As we advance in a society seemingly not as conservative as in past years, workwear has become more laid back and casual wear in the workplace is becoming increasingly popular. As a result, it can be tricky to understand the rules of appearance. Even though dressing appropriately for work can be quite challenging for some people, it is important to always adhere to company policy and maintain a professional appearance. This is because we have to remember that our professional attire can have a huge impact on the impression we make on our colleagues, employers and clients.

The way we look plays a role in our success in the modern workplace so please read on for some tips on how to keep a professional appearance.

Consider how you want to be perceived

Think about the type of impression you want to make when choosing your attire for work. Regardless of your position, keep in mind that you represent the company you work for, thus your attire is a significant part of that presentation.

Consider how you might be perceived

No matter how we want to be perceived by the others, we can’t always control how someone else will view us. That said, we should try to put ourselves in other people’s shoes and consider whether we are wearing something distracting that might provoke unwanted attention and criticism.

Fashion does not always equate to “business”

Be careful when looking for work wear from fashion ads. Remember that we can still have a professional appearance whilst being fashionable without having to bare too much skin in the office, regardless of the season.

Know your company’s policy

If your company requires a dress code or even implements compulsory branded work wear, follow it.

Keep your Casual Friday attire in check

Even if it is Casual Friday in the office, do not forget that laid back does not mean being lax. Cut-off shorts, flip-flops and tank tops might overdo it, so go for tidy jeans, a smart casual shirt and appropriate shoes.

Grooming matters

It goes without saying that good grooming is a must. Regular bathing and applying deodorant is a must to achieve the comfortable professional vibe we are aiming for.
